Information about Emma
I am 49 years old and have two grown up children. I have always loved languages, so while they were in primary school I studied with The Open University and achieved a First Class Honours in Language Studies (English and French). As I was also keen to work with children, I worked part-time in a primary school while I studied and this inspired me to go into the teaching profession. I am passionate about teaching young children and taught at my last school for over seven years. I decided to leave in December 2021 to become a tutor so that I could continue to pursue my passion for helping children to learn, while having time to spend with my new grandchild!
Availability: I am available Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday mornings 9am-12pm.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: For six years I worked as a learning support assistant on a one to one basis with children with autism. I then completed the Graduate Teaching Programme, achieving Qualified Teacher Status in 2012 and worked as a Key Stage 1 and Early Years teacher until December 2021. I have worked with children with a range of learning difficulties and believe it is vital to develop effective relationships to support each child in a personalised way so they can achieve his or her own potential. I received continuous professional development as a teacher, including Mathematics Mastery, and most recently further phonics training. I consider phonics and the teaching of reading to be a particular strength. I am a firm believer that children learn best when they are relaxed and having fun. I create bespoke sessions featuring a range of activities to target those areas children need to work on, develop confidence and promote progress. I have been tutoring for over a year now and pride myself on developing excellent relationships with the children I tutor, so that they feel confident enough to have a go and not be afraid of making mistakes.
