I am an experienced, Oxford-educated teacher and tutor of History, Classics, and Ancient History, with a proven track record of helping students to reach their fullest potential. I have spent four years as Head of History in a high-performing London school, raised A Level results to their highest ever level, and placed 13 students in Oxford or Cambridge courses following a dedicated program of one-to-one prep sessions. As a published author of a widely used textbook series, I also have close familiarity with almost all commonly taught history and ancient history topics in UK schools.

My academic background is in both History and Classics, and I have a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford in Greek and Roman History (graduated with distinction in 2016). Prior to commencing my degree at Oxford I studied History and Classics for four years at the Australian National Univeristy, where I graduated in 2013 with honours. I have always had a great passion for communicating and teaching the subjects I love, and have worked in teaching and tutoring for the past eight years.

I am also one of the authors of the Knowing History textbook series published by Harper Collins, which is used in History departments throughout the country and commands over 10% of Key Stage 3 History textbooks sales in the UK. Writing and contributing to these books across multiple editions has entailed researching and designing teaching resources for a vast range of topics, far beyond the wide range that have taught in the classroom, and has equipped me with the subject knowledge to instruct students in a much wider range of areas than most history teacher.

I find that working one-on-one with students allows me to have the greatest possible impact on their education. Through focused, tailored teaching of key material and precise guided practice, I have found that it is possible to dramatically and permanently improve a student`s performance.

Experience: I was Head of History at the West London Free School for four years, and have been teaching History, Classics, and Ancient History for eight. I have taught towards the OCR qualifications for GCSE and A Level History, Classics, and Ancient History, and the Edexcel and AQA qualifications for GCSE History. Under my supervision, my History department achieved its best-ever A Level results (in the 2022 exams), with 58% of students achieving an A or A, 100% achieving A to C, and a progress score of 0.42.

I have extensive experience instructing and guiding students at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and a strong track record of attaining excellent results at all levels. I have particular experience working closely with Sixth Form students to develop research, writing, and university application skills. At the West London Free School I overhauled our provision of A Level History coursework to place our focus squarely on training students in research and long-form writing, equipping them with the skills to become independent researchers at university. I have also helped to run intensive interview practice for Oxbridge applications, and helped to develop personal statements for many dozens of students applying for Russell Group universities. Thirteen of our students have been accepted to study History at Oxford or Cambridge during my four years overseeing the department.
