Information about Mollie
Hi! My name is Mollie and I`m an experienced educator and an enthusiast of all things biological. I have recently returned from a year away teaching ESL at the highest ranked university in Ecuador - Universidad de San Francisco de Quito - situated in the breathtakingly beautiful (and biologically thrilling!) Galapagos Islands. I first ventured to the islands as a student of Evolutionary Biology to do research with the University of Exeter. I later returned to be an educator to students of all abilities, walks of life and ages (from 6 to 60!). At the beginning of this year I started tutoring a young woman in her Biology and Psychology A-level. She was over the moon with her results and I loved every minute of tutoring her. I am very much looking forward to continuing my journey in tutoring!
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have A-levels in Biology, Psychology and Philosophy and an AS-level in Mathematics. I achieved an A* in my Philosophy A-level and continued onto the University of York to study Philosophy at degree level, however personal circumstances lead me to discontinue my studies.
When I returned to university, I studied Evolutionary Biology at the University of Exeter`s Cornwall campus. The range of study on this course was vast - ecological theory, genetics, statistical programming and coding, data collection and interpretation (in various Cornish locations as well as in Iceland and the Galapagos Islands), writing scientific journal articles, the role of science in society, laboratory work including DNA extraction and analysis as well as several Geography modules with a focus on human societies. The list goes on! I thoroughly enjoyed my studies and am returning to the same institution to study for an Evolution and Behavioural Ecology Masters in September 2022.
I have worked as an educator at an independent International School in Spain and held a position working alongside the education sector of my local council for over a year.
I worked as an English as a Second Language teacher at the University of San Francisco de Quito Galapagos Campus for one year. I taught all abilities and ages, often providing one-on-one teaching to those students in need. I loved teaching and living in the Galapagos Islands. During my time there I learnt so much about the people, the ecology of the island and about how to be the best teacher I can be.
This year, tutored a young woman in her Biology and Psychology A-level subjects (AQA). She obtained a teacher-assessed grade A in both subjects and is soon to leave for Cardiff University to study Psychology at degree level.
