Information about Susan
I am based in Bude. I have a number of years of experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, providing support to pupils within the GCSE English curriculum. I also tutored on a 1-1 basis, for 5 years, pupils within the school who were neurodiverse.
I privately tutor year 10 and 11 pupils and anyone who is studying for GCSE English Language or Literature (or both). This also includes students at school, college and adult learners and because of my experience with working with pupils with special needs, can help to breakdown the learning process and inspire confidence in learning for those who struggle with the subject.
From 202O to 2025 I was employed as a cover supervisor at Launceston College.
I have plenty of patience and a sense of humour and like to think that I can make it a more enjoyable lesson. I also understand the challenges faced by some students within a school environment such as large classes, subject moving along at a pace before clear understanding has taken place. I like to cover topics that are currently being taught by the subject teacher in school so that it promotes confidence in understanding within the classroom.

Experience: I have a degree in English and Writing Contemporary Fiction. I worked for almost eighteen years in a secondary school in Southampton. The first twelve years supporting pupils in the learning support in mainstream subjects. The latter six years tutoring pupils in an aspergers unit attached to the school, in subjects from the GCSE curriculum.
From 2020 to 2025 I was employed by Launceston College as a cover supervisor to stand in for all subject teachers who were absent.
My specialist subject is English language and literature.
I have privately tutored since 2017.
