I am a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic maths teacher with 14 years’ experience in teaching GCSE, A level maths and Further Maths for Sixth Form Centre of large FE colleges. Before I qualified as a maths teacher in 2007, I worked for UK universities and industries as a researcher for 10 years. In addition to the support and tuition I give to individual students in my daily teaching role, I have tutored numerous GCSE and A level students who have all improved mathematical understanding and skills, enhanced depth of knowledge and achieved the grades they desire. I have thoroughly enjoyed my tutoring experience and feel very much rewarded when my tutees have reached their target grades and achieved full potentials in the subject.

Availability: Currently on weekends but can be flexible if my teaching timetable allows.

Experience: Having worked as a maths teacher for the past 14 years, I am familiar with the old and new GCSE and A level maths specifications, syllabuses and exam requirements. Committed to effective teaching and learning, I write schemes of work for different maths units, plan lessons and develop my own teaching resources, some of which are published on TES website with good reviews (search TES Resources with keyword hong xu). I have received highly positive comments from my students and tutees about their learning experience and achievements in the subject. For the past several years, particularly during the recent lockdown period, I have accumulated experience in online tuition/teaching using Team/Zoom and successfully delivered online sessions for individual and groups of learners.

My tutoring approaches mainly are: identify levels and specific learning needs, set phased targets, employ interactive and effective strategies, provide instant feedbacks and follow up work, make good use of own interests and learning an enjoyable journey.
