Information about Drew
I have a degree in English Literature from Cambridge (I was at Christ`s College - notable alumni include John Milton, Charles Darwin, J C Bose, Louis Mountbatten, Simon Schama), and a DMus in Composition from the RCM. Needless to say, I have a profound love and knowledge of English (and world, especially German) Literature, but am also literate in Science, dislike boundaries between disciplines and like to draw connections between them. I write poetry and novels, and encourage creativity in students whenever I see it.
Availability: Presently, all late afternoons or - preferably - evenings except Thursday. Weekends are also possible and some mornings if students can only manage tuition then. Please note that my headline rate (£60) depends on how much travelling is required. Should you live near me, it will cost less, and if you should choose to be taught at my address, the rate would be the same as online (£45). I like to give good value, and am constitutionally incapable of ending lessons on the dot if we are in the middle of a passage, say, or an interesting point!
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have been helping students to reach their potential - many A*s or 9s in GCSE in GCSE English Literature and Language, and A*s in A level English Literature for nigh on 18 years. I have also taught classes in Shanghai. Nearly all my students (and their parents) have given me 5* ratings. I`m a clear, interesting - and, I hope, entertaining! - tutor, and eloquent interpreter of the texts we are studying - and of
course I encourage students to read eloquently and want to hear them defend their interpretations too! I encourage students to bullet-point their essays to clarfiy their argument in advance - and to personalise their responses. To show real engagement with the text is absolutely the best way to triumph in your exams!
