Information about Luke

Luke graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2019 and has been enjoying a varied freelance career since. He was resident clarinettist with Southbank Sinfonia for their 2020 - 2022 seasons and Luke has worked regularly with the Royal Opera House, Philharmonia Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Chamber music highlights include performing as a soloist with Ian Brown of the Nash Ensemble at Wigmore Hall and giving a broadcast performance of Oliver Knussen’s Trumpets at the British Composer Awards. Luke is also an accomplished composer and loves exploring the space where classical music collides with other genres. Most recently carving out a space for the bass clarinet & electronic dance music to sit alongside.

Experience: I have taught for around 8 years now and have a lot of experience in preparing for ABRSM examinations if that is what you`re hoping to do. Or if you`re looking to reconnect with your childhood instrument or want to play through some pop tunes once a week then that`s great too! Either way it`s always my aim to make the lessons fun and enjoyable whilst challenging you to progress and evolve as a musician.

I aim for a holistic approach to musicianship during my lessons. There are many different qualities to musicianship, therefore we tend cover lots of different elements such as interpretation, improvisation, harmonic structure, aspects of performance, rhythmic security & historical relevance.

My lessons are all student-led, meaning I`ll look for the right solutions and approaches for each individual. We`ll find out what works best for you and do more of that! I`m an approachable person and it`s important to me that my students have fun during our lessons and I`m always looking for ways to make that happen.

If you`re interested or would like more information, please don`t hesitate to get in touch!
