Information about Joss

I`m a FY1 doctor working in the NHS. I also teach medical students at Cambridge University and UCL as part of my formal teacher training to achieve a Postgraduate Certificate in education. I graduated with a medical degree from University College London in 2024, having previously earned a First-Class Honours BSc in Cardiovascular Science. At medical school I was awarded the George Drexler Bursary for academic excellence and was awarded a distinction for research conducted in my third year at university investigating a new treatment for heart attacks.

I tutor in

Maths - KS3, GCSE
Biology - KS3, GCSE, A-Level
Chemistry - KS3, GCSE
Physics - KS3, GCSE
Medical Admissions and Interview preparation.
Help with personal statements.

I have over six years of experience as a tutor, specialising in science and medical school admissions. This includes UCAT preparation, personal statement development, and interview coaching for both MMI and traditional formats. Having served on medical school interview panels, I offer insight-driven guidance to applicants navigating the admissions process.

Availability: I can be available most weekday evenings and can be very flexible over the weekends for online tutoring.

Please note, I offer a 66% discount for the first introductory lesson booked. This is where I don`t take a cut from the payment. I do this to ensure that both parties can meet each other first to make sure it`s the right fit!

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: Alongside my clinical work as a doctor, I am undertaking a formal teacher training qualification, delivering multiple in-person and virtual tutorials each week as part of this programme.

I have several years of experience as a private tutor, supporting GCSE and sixth form students in maths and science across both foundation and higher tiers. In addition, I work with a number of students each year to support them through the competitive and often complex medical school application process, offering tailored guidance on entrance exams, personal statements, and interview preparation.

Very impressed by Joss. Excellent communication in setting up lessons and a programme of study and a friendly and knowledgeable approach. After a few lessons Joss suggested stopping as he felt my son was not benefitting sufficiently from online lessons. Completely agreed as my son is not that motivated in this subject generally and, after a year of COVID online lessons with school, fairly unenthusiastic about this method of learning. I very much respected Joss`s honesty (when he could have easily have just kept taking the money) and he made good suggestions for next steps. I am sure Joss would make excellent progress with the right student.

My Y11 (GCSE) son has had biology tutoring with Joss. My son found Joss easy to get on with from the start and I feel he enjoyed the fact that Joss is a medical student, which is something that my son is currently very interested in. Joss has been very punctual and prepared for the lessons, with materials (slides) and exam practise questions. My son has commented that Joss covered things such as exam/HW question techniques/points to remember which is great as these can be forgotten/slip even by the more able students. Although I initially contacted Joss for biology tutoring, it`s great that we now have a "go to person" for chemistry and maths too, should these subjects require a boost in the future.

Joss was absolutely brilliant. He came well prepared to our sessions using PowerPoint, exams questions and diagrams to help explain things very well. He also made their resources available to me outside of our sessions and with set homework, I was able to reflect on my progress throughout. With his strong educational background in medicine, he really knows his stuff and is able to make links to real-life which made understanding topics MUCH easier. Would definetly recommend!
