Information about Andrew

I graduated from Bristol University with a Bachelors degree in Chemical Physics. I am a qualified teacher with experience in the state secondary school sector. My students ranged in age from 11 to 18. I am very passionate about helping others learn and have made this a major goal of my life for many years now. In my teaching and tutoring I aim is to raise confidence and develop independence with those i work with and help make achievement in education fun with well-structured and personalised lessons.

Availability: I am available on both weekdays and weekends and will do my utmost to accommodate the requests of all my prospective clients.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: I have taught a very wide variety of students in my time as a teacher and have had the privilege to work in four different schools in that time. I have also had the opportunity to work with the Army Cadet Force youth organisation which further developed and diversified my teaching style to accommodate often non-ideal learning environments. I have worked closely with the IOP and have attended a number of courses to help incorporate the use of simple practical experiments in lessons and tutoring sessions to widen the avenues of approach to achieving the goals of the learner.

I have a very friendly approach to tutoring. I follow the syllabus being undertaken closely to ensure every topic is covered fully. As a dyslexic I understand how confusing some teaching styles can be I strive to make my methods and explanations clear and straightforward and like to approach the first session in a very similar way with each tutee to ensure confidence and a knowledge of where things are headed.

Firstly, I will discuss why tutoring has been sought and find out the expectations and aims of both tutee and the fee-payer in both short term and long term.

Secondly, I will get a feeling for the tutee`s knowledge of the subject what they feel about the subject, topics they enjoy and topics they don`t as much what they find difficult/easy and what interests them about the subject and if they have a long term objective.

Thirdly, we will agree a timetable for the forthcoming weeks/months and i will develop lessons that cater to the needs of the tutee taking into account that if the student is attending school then the timetable may need to be altered to align or reinforce the work covered there.

I endeavor to make the learning fun and attempt to relate the learning to the tutee`s own interests wherever possible. I always make sure that the tutee understands the topics before moving on. In return I expect the student to assume some responsibility for their learning and complete any work and reading tasks discussed and agreed upon.
