Information about Harry
I`m currently studying for my PhD in Chemical & Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College and for the past 4 years have been a part-time tutor with 250+ hours experience, primarily with Maths and Chemistry A-Level students. I graduated with a 1st in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College in 2017 and prior to that achieved A* in Maths, Further, Maths Chemistry and Physics in my A-Levels.
Availability: Due to the current COVID-19 situation I am only providing online tuition but I and can be very flexible with regards to tuition times and days.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have found in the previous few years that many of the same problems, concerns and issues crop up when talking to students. The main concerns I have found in students surround a lack of confidence in understanding the core concepts and exam technique/preparation. I focus my tutoring style around tackling these two points by spending extra time discussing difficult topics or concepts in depth where the student often feels a teacher has skimmed over the topic quickly, and by problem based learning by tackling a range of challenging past paper questions. This approach helps to reinforce concepts by engaging the student to apply their knowledge, and simultaneously improves exam technique and confidence by tackling a large number of questions in preparation for exams and has proved to be successful in previous years.
Despite this, no one student is the same and thus no single approach to tutoring is appropriate for all students. I do not have a rigid structure that I apply to all students and thus adapt my approach to their individual learning style. Some students require or prefer regular homework and feedback whereas others need more of a coaching-style approach to refine their knowledge and abilities and this is adapted based on their individual needs. I try to foster an engaging and relaxed tutoring environment where the student can feel comfortable asking any questions and covering topics that they may not feel as confident to bring up to teachers in class.
I now specialise in tutoring A-Level Chemistry but I have additional experience with Maths, Physics, Economics and Engineering. I have over 250 hours of tuition experience, privately both in-person and online, and also from teaching larger groups of students and assisting in classroom lessons and lectures.
