I am a trained and qualified teacher of mathematics, with over 9 years of teaching in different secondary schools in the UK. I am willing to tutor students in year 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Maths is a subject that I am passionate about and I always enjoy teaching my students maths. I am aware of the various learning styles as a teacher and I use these in lesson preparation. I have experience of teaching pupils with various needs. I have the ability to teach students with different learning abilities. I always have high expectations of my students in terms of their learning. I have taught Maths in different secondary schools in the UK. I usually carry out initial assessment before start with any of my students. The assessment are based on year groups KS3 & KS4 including GCSE grades (1-9). This will allow me to pin point any gaps or move students ahead of the school curriculum.
I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use various assessment for learning (AFL) skills to check the progress of my students.
I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practise and perfect the student’s understanding and techniques. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as functional maths questions and the effective use of numbers and graphs.
