I am a working teacher, live near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and have a BA (Hons) degree in History from Oxford University.

My specialism is History at A Level and GCSE but I also offer other Humanities subjects up to GCSE.

If unable to meet face-to-face, I am very happy to meet through Skype, WhatsApp or other media.

I`ve worked with young people since 1998 as a youth worker, teacher and tutor, and have an annually updated enhanced DBS check.

My first session is free and with no obligation. It`s a chance to explain what I can offer, find out more about your knowledge and needs, and for you to ask any questions before making a final decision.

I prepare individually for each tutoring session and bring a sheet covering the key points. This is also available by email so that students can read, augment or revise from it as best suits them.

I like to motivate and enthuse pupils as well as stimulate their curiosity, and help them make the essential connections between historical events, themes and analysis.

I also help with coursework assignments, exam essay structure and techniques.

Availability: I`m available on weekdays between 4pm and 9pm as well as many weekends and most school holidays (please check weekend and holiday availability with me in advance).

IMPORTANT: I also offer small group lessons. In my opinion the benefits of joint working compensate because of the opportunities for wider discussion about the topics. Also not all parents can afford a tutor so some students have an advantage over their peers. While I do need to charge a living rate for my work, I`m keen to redress this so far as I can. Therefore I also offer tuition to two or more students at a time with a much cheaper fee per student. Also, if families have genuine difficulties with tutor rates I am happy to do group-work at the lower one-to-one fee.

Please also note that my published rates hold for anyone living within 5 miles/8km of my home if I`m travelling to you. If you live further away, I do have to consider the time and expense of travel (not least given the traffic in these parts).

Therefore, if you live further away and I`m travelling to you, my hourly rate will be increased by £10 to cover time and travel.

Experience: I began my working career in bookselling and publishing.

Later I trained and became a qualified Youth & Community Worker. After 16 years` experience as a youth mentor, youth worker and youth work manager, I started teaching secondary pupils in 2014 and am now a full-time secondary-school teacher.

I have also marked History GCSE and O Level exams, employed by Cambridge International Examinations.

I can provide certificates for all degrees and qualifications on request.
