Information about Stephen
I am a certified C2-level French speaker with both a bachelor`s degree in French and Italian language and literature and a master`s degree in French literature. I have also passed the CIOL Level 6 Certificate in Translation from French to English with a distinction and a merit for general and business translation respectively. I also hold the same certificate in translation from English to French.
I have exceptional subject matter knowledge, so whether you`re studying for your GCSEs or A-levels, or have a broader interest in learning either French or Italian and want to be led by topics that interest you and are useful to you, I can tailor sessions to your needs.
I started learning French when I was 10, but I`d already been captivated by it before then when I used to listen to it on the radio. I wanted to emulate one of my uncles who had learnt fluent French and used to read French novels for fun. That blew my mind at the time. From that moment, I knew I was going to be a fluent French speaker one day.
I also spent a year as an Erasmus student in Genoa, Italy, during my degree at the University of Warwick.
Availability: I can cover early mornings except on Tuesday and Friday, or evenings after 6:30pm. Weekends vary. Would be willing to accommodate regular students and organise my time accordingly.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been on the full language learning journey as an anglophone learning French, which means I can provide a different perspective from a native French speaker. As a testament of my mastery of French, I hold the DALF C2 (diplôme approfondi de langue française). I also hold the degree-level Certificate in Translation issued by the CIOL and I provide translations for French NGOs focussing on healthcare and humanitarian relief.
I taught English at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France in the 2005-2006 academic year.

Really happy with the great way that Stephen is able to bring a real focus to the subject. Will be using him through the whole of the IB syllabus!
