Information about Heather
¡Hola! Bonjour !
I am a qualified and experienced Modern Foreign Languages teacher. I taught at a secondary school for two years in Cheshire and have recently ventured away from my role to tutor full-time. Therefore, I am flexible to provide tutoring slots that work for you, any time of the week.
Having grown up with French speaking parents in the UK, I am bilingual with a native fluency in both English and French, as well as Spanish.
Every single lesson is tailored to the ability and requirements of each student I teach. If you would like to discuss specific learning needs with me I am more than happy to do so. I have worked with students with: autism, ADHD, processing difficulties, hard of hearing, sight impairment, to name a few.
Availability: My availability is flexible and I can tutor Monday - Saturday from 9am - 7pm. My preference is to tutor online but I can accommodate requests to tutor in-person for students within 5 miles from KT19.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I place particular importance in my teaching to create a fun learning environment, to empower students to overcome challenges and build mastery in their subject.
I was awarded a 2:1 for my BA(Hons) degree in Spanish and Italian, with a distinction in the spoken use of Spanish. I travelled to Cuba and Sicily during my year abroad which was invaluable to my language learning experience and I love sharing these experiences and lessons with my students! My methods of teaching promote languages and cultures, as this provides real world context and sparks intrigue and a desire to further their language learning.
I have been teaching in a classroom environment for four years now. As such I have the resources and experience to prepare students for GCSE and A Level exams. I have a thorough understanding of the AQA and Eduqas specifications, but I can easily adapt my teaching to meet other exam board requirements.
I`m very aware of common misconceptions that arise when learning grammar and pronunciation and as I get to know students I can pre-empt these in my lesson plans to encourage participation and help them to get it right first time around, which as we know can be so important for young adults and their confidence!
In the first lesson you can expect:
A short informal assessment to highlight any areas to improve
Get to know me, ask questions (don`t worry these can be in English!)
A discussion about what you want to achieve
Put together a plan for upcoming sessions, setting milestone goals
