Information about James
I am an engaging, enthusiastic KS3/GCSE science and geography tutor. My specialisms include chemistry, geology and geography. As well as tutoring, I work as a part-time freelance scientific consultant (geomaterials and risk assessment) and have published widely in this area. I very much enjoy passing on knowledge, ideas, and skills, using a `person-centred` communication approach. I have two children with special needs (ASD/ADHD) and am happy to work with children who have such needs. I also teach adults to play rock/pop guitar and bass!
Availability: I am quite flexible and can cater for after school, evenings, and weekends. Please get in touch to see if I can meet your needs.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I originally trained as a geologist and have a PhD in geochemistry. As well as tutoring, I still work as a consultant (part-time) in the energy/environment sector. I enjoy the contrast of working on highly specialized projects for clients and teaching fundamental knowledge skills to young people. In addition to
tutoring, I have developed and run training courses for professionals. I have also been part of a team delivering revision/homework classes at a secondary school. I strongly believe that everyone is able to learn, develop and grow as a person (at any age!) My passion is to help tutees understand the fundamentals, gain confidence in their application, and foster curiosity and interest.
