Information about Saima
Studying Biology with Psychology at Bachelors level has given me an opportunity to study modules such as Genetics, Neurosciences, Endocrinology and Microbiology. These have all in their own expanded my knowledge of Biological mechanism and processes. In addition, studying a Masters in Psychology has equipped me with a skill of understanding the needs of Young people. I have been able to use this skill as a useful differentiation tool supporting students with various needs.
I currently teach A-Level Biology and Applied Science, working across two campuses had enabled to manage my time more effectively. Teaching KS5 Biology, requires strong subject command for which I constantly attend CPDS, lectures at University of Manchester to stay up to date with the current advancements. A key aspect of my job role is to track progress of A-level biology students and further set interventions, where these are monitored and reviewed every two weeks. Moreover, I am also responsible for 5 tutorial groups and as a tutor I assist them with UCAS applications, personal statements and write their references for universities. I have also carried out career talks, interview evenings and taster days where new students are welcomed into the college.
Alongside studying, I worked as an A-level Biology and GCSE Science tutor for 5 years. This proved to be a leadership role for me, where I took sole responsibility to recognise the key weaknesses of students, and created targets to improve and achieve better outcomes in my sessions each week. I also helped A-level students with their UCAS applications, and guided them to choose suitable career routes. Beyond teaching students, what I truly value is the student-teacher bond and being their role model.
Teaching for me is not a job, it is a vocation that is essential for all jobs. I believe that if I am given this job opportunity, and therefore will allow me to apply my experiences into inspiring future students to embark careers in the field of Science
