Information about Joseph
I have a passion for the subject of History especially, but also for humanities subject where reading and thinking critically is key- such as politics, English and philosophy and ethics. I would love the opportunity to look to give something back, and help talk through and hopefully further a student`s knowledge, curiosity, and passion of, these subjects. I always enjoy lively discussion and debate.
I am also a keen footballer, and enjoy volunteering in my own time. I live in Cheltenham during the vacation, which is where I would be looking to tutor; I have access to a car from Charlton Kings.
Availability: From July 22th-August 2th. And then from August 8th-September 20th.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have worked, across school, and University, at a very high standard academically. I am currently reading history at Jesus College, Oxford University, going into my third year. I went to school at Balcarras Comprehensive, receiving 3 As at A level, which allowed me to be the only student in my year to go to Oxbridge. Since being at Oxford, I have achieved standout success within history, acquiring a Distinction/First in my first year Preliminary exams, and an average score of 73 which was the 8th highest in the year out of 200+ candidates. Throughout my time at school and university, I have had numerous experiences of group work, where throughout I have enjoyed being able to give and receive educational advice and help.
Whilst not having explicit tutoring work before, I have had experience in an educational environment; I worked as an assistant teacher at Bettridge school for special needs children in Gloucestershire. This work taught me the value of patience within a teaching space, and also gave me the passion and drive to want to pursue further teaching opportunities which crucially entail allowing students to progress academically and personally.
I have also had experience working in other roles, such as doing bar work, giving tours of Jesus College, and working as a telephone salesman.
