Information about Katy
I am an experienced and caring tutor who believes that all individuals have the potential to succeed, with a little 1-1 support and patient guidance I believe all students have the ability to achieve their goals academically.
I am a passionate scientist working as an entomologist at the Natural History Museum in London since 2014 and I have worked on a number of ground breaking projects that are pioneering new methods in biological research. Therefore, I feel passionately about supporting students to develop their skills within STEM subjects, equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed within studying STEM and potentially developing a career within the STEM industry.
I have good experience within private tutoring and I have taught students for the Field Studies Council across the UK and I taught biology and entomology to international school groups for Operation Wallacea. I consider education to be invaluable and I have a profound respect for learning and I want to help others who value and enjoy learning develop their skills further. I also find it even more inspiring to encourage those students who do not have a natural love for learning progress and find inspiration for their studies.
My three core teaching principles:
1. Participation: I will continuously ask you for your input, keeping our sessions engaging and active; this will be done though engagement during and after taught sessions and setting activities/work for you to do between sessions.
2. Confidence building: I will teach you to be confident in your abilities by carefully guiding you to develop your mental and practical skills within the sciences.
3. Development: We will develop `challenge areas` within your subject knowledge, focusing on how we can improve them so they don`t hold you back.
During lessons I try to identify barriers to learning and topics that my students find challenging. I then focus on creating tasks to help them overcome these problem areas. We also work though a range of resources to suit a variety of learning styles and needs, I value diversity in learning styles and will always adapt my teaching style to suit your needs. I have an extensive range of resources to pull from which include subject specific workbooks, past papers, exam questions and short 5 a day style questions to pull from. I use engaging revision cards and activities to keep learning fun and engaging. All of the above can be emailed to you.
I am available to tutor in person at your home or online. ** Currently offering online sessions only due to Covid-19. I tutor both KS3 and GCSE level biology.

Katy was absolutely fantastic with my daughter & put in so much effort with & for her, organising useful resources for her success. Sadly our time was cut short due to the GCSE cancellations but I would recommend Katy as a tutor to anyone.
Tutors Response :
