Information about Shafia
Personal statement:
I have studied Psychology at King`s College London and gained a First Class Honours. Having studied Maths (A), English Literature (A*), and Psychology (A*) for A Levels at Nonsuch Grammar High School for Girls, as well as Biology (A), I am able to perceive a greater knowledge into the Art subjects as well as the Mathematical and Science based subjects too, which I believe will help me to deliver my lessons to students of all ages studying subjects which consist and require of similar skills and techniques. Furthermore, I have an extensive insight to the criteria required for a grammar school, should you wish for your child to sit the 11+ or 13+. Having received a 7 (A) in my GCSEs for Maths and English, I am familiar with the maths and English syllabuses as well as the new 9-1 course for GCSEs. I am also experienced in tutoring anyone studying Maths and English in primary school and those in lower secondary. Through this, I am hoping to achieve a vast amount of experience within the tutoring field as I will be working towards a degree in which interaction with children of all ages will be required. I hope to take the knowledge and hard work I have gained throughout the years and distribute this through tutoring Maths and English to children from Primary to GCSE.
Many of my students have achieved entry into Private and Independent schools as well as Grammar schools, for both the 11+ and the 13+, along with academic scholarships being awarded to 4 of my students.
Above 97% of my students have increased their grades by two grades or more through the extent of tuition delivered and their own effort of being determined to excel, not just within academia, however with their confidence levels too.
My method:
My method is pretty straight forward, yet it is determination that produces the outcome. I work by understanding the individual child and their needs and cater to each child`s needs as each child is unique in their own way, which is incredible. Some children lean towards learning through notes and flashcards while others require a more interactive way of learning. I consider these needs through various different ways. For example, a child who may learn better through interactive and social techniques, I create Kahoot games or quizzes for these subjects. These not only enhance the child`s knowledge, they also deliver this sense of competitiveness, which I believe is needed, especially for the real world. For children who learn better by revision and past papers, I take the traditional method of going through past papers after having completed the topic. I will then revisit these areas in order to make sure the child is up to date and memorising their topics and keywords. Homework is given after every lesson, whether they have one class or three classes with me per week. The homework, based on the depth, will then be due for a certain date. With me, each child receives their very own Google Classroom (depending on situation and parent approval) on which they will receive weekly tasks and homework. I also post PowerPoints and material that we have covered during class on to the site so the child can view it at any time, either for revision or to help with their homework.
Alternatively, I am also able to do homework help for free, whereby if the parent is able to send me a photo of the question(s) their child is struggling on (outside of class time) I can review this and send a detailed solution on how to work it out. Many students and parents have stated that the way in which I work with each child enables to build their child`s confidence and succeed in class.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
