Information about Shaun
I am a full time teacher of mathematics and have been working at a school in Nottingham for 24 years. I have great experience in tutoring at all levels, including maths at Civil Engineering degree level. I have a detailed working knowledge of all of the exam boards and a full understanding of how marks schemes are used, having been a marker of GCSE papers for the past 20 years. This helps to give an insight into what the exam boards require and also helps with exam technique.
Understanding and being able to implement concepts in maths relies purely on confidence. I will always work towards building confidence in students by building on their fundamental understanding of the concepts involved. Once this is cracked, then everything else will fall into place.
Availability: Weekday evenings after 6pm. Saturday and Sunday
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: 24 years teaching in Nottingham. 3 years prior to that in Sunderland.
20 years of 1 to 1 tuition at all levels of maths.
Shaun was recommended to us by some friends who had used him to tutor their daughter at both GSCE and A level.
Our concern was that our daughter did not have the confidence in her ability to obtain a decent grade at GCSE, and that the teaching at the school left an awful lot to be desired in addressing this issue.
Over a period of a few months Shaun managed to instil in Romy a belief that she was considerably better at maths than she thought she was, and that she could indeed obtain a grade of which she could be proud.
The result was a grade B at IGCSE level, which far exceeded the expectations of the school, us, and most importantly of Romy herself. For this we are extremely grateful to Shaun for being so supportive of, and patient with Romy. The level of professionalism and enthusiasm he demonstrated was exemplary, and we would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone whose child needs this sort of support.

Hiring Shaun was one of the best decisions I made at school. I would never have got my A* in maths without the help. Due to my result at GCSE I decided to continue up to A level, which I never thought I would have the confidence to do before. I also continued to receive help from Shaun once a week, and thanks to him I went on to get an A* at A level as well, and was therefore able to apply to my first choice university for my chosen subject, Economics and Finance.
If you are struggling with maths then I would definitely recommend that you use Shaun rather than just avoiding moving forward in the subject. I would certainly not hesitate in making the same decision again.

Our daughter was in her last year and was predicted a grade E in maths, and because we knew how important it was for her to get a grade C for the college course she wanted to pursue, we decided to find a maths tutor to give her the extra help she needed. We felt lucky to have met Shaun. He listened to her and realised that she had a passion for dance so he taught her maths in a dance related way. The relief on our daughters face as she started to understand the subject was great to see, and slowly her confidence grew and her fear of maths ebbed away. The day she got her GCSE result she was so nervous. The first result she wanted to see was maths, and she managed to get a grade C. She was so happy and she let Shaun know straight away. We are convinced that without Shauns patience and understanding she would not have achieved a grade C, or be applying to University as she is now. We would recommend Shaun to any parent who feels their child needs extra help

I hated maths because I couldnt understand it, and at first I thought a tutor would not make a difference because I was beginning to give up. My Mum and Dad thought that getting a tutor was worth a try, and we were very lucky to have found someone like Shaun. He helped me to stop panicking and making things difficult for myself. He related algebra to dance, made me understand maths, and I started to like it. When I opened my GCSE results the first result I looked at was maths. When I saw the C at first I thought theyd given me the wrong result and I burst out crying. Shaun gave me the confidence to believe in myself and not to give up, because for so long I had got Es and Fs and never thought I would get a C. Now I am on the college course I aimed for, and if it wasnt for Shaun I would never have been able to apply for University.
If you feel that you need help in maths dont feel embarrassed. Shaun makes you feel at ease and is a brilliant tutor.

The style of tutoring was excellent, from the start of second year Civil Engineering course to the final year. From AS level to A2 and higher, each topic was covered and support given across the board.

Shaun taught me for an hour a week over 5 terms and covered all of my A level modules thoroughly. He was easy to understand and always explained the methods in detail and at a pace I could keep up with. I am delighted to say that I achieved a grade at the top end of my expectations, which contributed to me being onto my first choice course at Exeter University.
