I’m passionate about maths and with eight years` experience as a one-to-one tutor I strongly believe that patient explanation, encouragement and praise can improve all students’ grades and performance.

With rising numbers of GCSE and A Level students, it is increasingly important to achieve good grades. Whether a student is struggling with basic concepts and have lost their way in class or a student wants to improve on an already good understanding of maths, my aim is to boost ability, technique and confidence.

People learn at different paces and in different ways. I work with my students to find the approach that suits them.

I can provide strong references and feedback. The mother of a student who was concerned her son would not pass his GCSE maths exam, said when the results arrived: "[__] got a grade 5. We were all over the moon! I couldn`t have been happier to find you, David, and you were very kind, patient and reliable."

The mother of one A Level student said: “David is very knowledgeable and thorough. He is polite and friendly and my son can relate to him. I am especially familiar with the Edexcel GCSE and A-Level syllabuses as well as the IGCSE course and I also teach the OCR and MEI A Level syllabuses. At A-Level, I teach Pure Maths, Statistics and Mechanics.

I am aged 68 and been married for 30 years.

I have a 2.1 Honours degree (one percentage point off a First!) in 1977 from Southampton University where I studied mathematics, semiconductor physics and quantum mechanics. Having retired from full-time work – I was Director of Media Relations in the senior executive management team at Royal Mail Group – I have the time and flexibility to meet the needs of my students.

Availability: I am available weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings, as well as Saturday mornings.

Experience: I`ve been a personal maths tutor since 2014 and I also spent almost two years as a volunteer maths teacher at Wimbledon College.
