I have 30 years secondary teaching experience in independent and state schools.I have a tried and tested track record of excellent results at GCSE and A Level over many years. My teaching is rooted in the belief that developing reading and writing skills should be inspiring and challenging.I believe that everyone has a unique and personal relationship to language and my approach supports specific individual needs.
I have been married for 31 years and I have two adult sons. I have traveled widely, worked in several sectors and went to Drama school in London after completing a BA (Hons) in Peace Studies at Bradford University. I am interested in the Arts and like to read, write and paint. I also like gardening and walking.
Availability: I can be flexible but in principle am available from 9.00-21.00hrs Mon-Fri. Depending on the circumstances, I can also work at agreed times in the evening or at weekends.

I have taught English, Drama and History in State Comprehensive and Independent schools in England and Canada.I have been Head of Department (Drama) in 3 schools. I have an extensive record of excellent results (mainly A*-B/9-6) at GCSE and A Level over many years. I have taught many different exam board syllabuses. I have also done some private tutoring previously.

Timothy has been tutoring my son in English and Drama since January and we have been incredibly happy with the support he has provided throughout the lead-up to GCSEs.
My son has ADHD and has struggled in the past with tutors and staying engaged during lessons, so finding the right tutor was really important to us. Timothy has been incredible from the very beginning. He immediately made my son feel comfortable and found ways to keep lessons engaging, approachable and productive without ever making him feel under pressure.
Not only is Timothy extremely knowledgeable in both subjects, but he also has a brilliant way of building confidence and helping students genuinely understand the material rather than just memorising it. The difference in both my son’s confidence and understanding since starting tuition has been huge.
Timothy also regularly sets homework and additional tasks between sessions, which has really helped reinforce what they have covered in lessons and kept my son focused and motivated throughout the week. The extra preparation and structure has made a massive difference to his confidence going into exams.
Following his recent Drama GCSE, my son came out of the exam saying how useful the sessions had been, especially as one of the areas they had focused on together came up in the paper. It was lovely to see him walk out feeling prepared and confident.
Timothy is patient, encouraging, reliable and clearly cares about helping his students achieve their best. He always puts effort into tailoring sessions to what is needed and creates a really supportive learning environment.
We are extremely grateful for all of his help over the past few months and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an excellent English and Drama tutor.

Mr Timothy is an excellent tutor and my son finds the lessons very helpful. Mr Timothy also gives my son homework and send him feedback and how he can improve his answers which my son finds very useful.

Excellent tutor. Timothy is supporting my son with his GCSE prep (year 11). He really does care and I can see a huge improvement in my son’s work and attitude towards English.
