Information about Alyse
I really enjoy being able to support young people to discover who they can be and love to see them grow in ability and confidence as I work with them. It is such a crucial developmental time for them, so I love being part of that journey and helping them to flourish in themselves and uncover who they are and what they could become.
I am a multi-instrumentalist - singing is my main passion, but I also play piano and flute to Grade 5. I have studied Music through school to A-Level, and can teach both from sheet music as well as by ear. I am a trained Arts Award Advisor for Discover-Silver, and completed my own Gold Arts Award in 2014.
Besides music, I studied Maths and Biology to A-Level, as well as achieving A*s in a wide range of subjects at GCSE. I love learning and believe that it should always be fun, and tailor lessons to best suit each individual to keep work engaging and interesting, as well as aiming to keep costs affordable so they don`t become a barrier to fun, learning and personal growth for anyone. I always try to be flexible with time and content when necessary, and am equally happy to assist with prepared content or answer difficulties arising directly from the student`s own studies and education.
I look at every individual holistically, and believe that growing as a person, in confidence and in enjoyment of a subject are just as important as achieving academic targets - personal growth not only helps the student to better achieve those results but also results in long-lasting learning that will help them throughout their academic lives.
Availability: Up-to-date availability can be found on the availability chart. This is subject to change and I try to be as accommodating as possible for all of my students.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been a tutor since April 2017, and in that time I have tutored a variety of students in both academic and musical subjects. Academically, I have worked with KS2 children in preparation for SATs, supporting KS3 students with class and homework and worked with KS4 students in preparation for GCSEs. The majority of the time, I teach maths, although I have also tutored Science GCSE. Alongside academic learning, I also teach students exam and essay technique as well as strategies to cope with exam anxiety. Aside from tutoring, I have been involved in youth work for the past 10 years and also have experience working as a teaching assistant/learning support assistant at both primary and FE levels.
I studied Music to A-Level have a Grade 5 qualification in Music Theory, Vocals, Piano and Flute and have worked with community choirs of both adults and children, specialising in folk/traditional music but with a background of classical and pop music too. I also studied Maths and Biology to A Level, achieving an A* in both, and have a passion for all the sciences , their practical uses and the wonders they reveal about how the world works.
