Information about Kate

I am an experienced Primary School teacher with a thorough understanding of the curriculum across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I’ve worked in Primary Education for 14 years, including 6 years as a Deputy Headteacher leading on teaching and learning and curriculum development. I love teaching children, developing new and initiative ways to engage them in learning and watching them grow in confidence, independence and ability through our time together. I have worked with a huge range of children, with varying needs and abilities and have a broad understanding of effective learning strategies to suit individuals.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: Deputy Headteacher (September 2013 – February 2020)
Within this role, I lead on Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Development (including Student and Newly Qualified Teacher mentoring), Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs & the ‘Rights Respecting School’ award. I taught phonics every morning through the Read, Write, Inc. programme and covered classes from all year groups, including teaching two days a week within a Year 5 class. I mentored colleagues across the school to ensure teaching quality was high and lessons were thoughtfully planned, innovative and secured progress for all.

Assistant Headteacher (January 2011 – August 2013)
While living in London, I worked as part of the Senior Leadership Team within a larger-than-average primary school. Again, my main responsibility within this role was leading Teaching for Learning and Curriculum Development. During my time as Assistant Headteacher, progress measures from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 were consistently above national. During my time in this role, I also established Parent and Pupil Maths Workshops to promote mathematical understanding and application and adapted the existing Teaching for Learning policy to include aspects of ‘Building Learning Power’ to promote independence and resilience in learners.

Lead Teacher for Assessment for London Borough of Harrow (January 2010 – August 2013)
Within this role, I was responsible for delivering ‘outreach’ support to primary schools across the borough of Harrow, with a specific focus on Assessment for Learning. This was concurrent with my role as Assistant Headteacher at the time. I loved the opportunity to further coach colleagues from other schools and implement strategies based on research around the assessment practices of Dylan William and Aliaster Smith

Year 5 Class Teacher, Year 5 Team Leader and Science Subject Coordinator (September 2009 - January 2011)
During this appointment, I was responsible for the educational and pastoral welfare of a Year 5 class of 30 pupils, planning, teaching and assessing against all KS2 National Curriculum subjects.

Teacher of English as a Foreign Language (August 2008 – August 2009)
Living and working in Japan for a year, I expanded my skills and competency in catering to different learning styles and widened my knowledge of different curriculum approaches through teaching both adults and children in a second language.

Year 7 Class Teacher (September 2006 – August 2008)
During this appointment, I was responsible for the educational and pastoral welfare of a Year 7 class of 25 pupils, planning, teaching and assessing against early KS3 National Curriculum objectives.
