Information about Gordon

Ready to start your catch-up sessions?
Head of Science for 10 years now working at an over subscribed private school in north London. Over twenty years tutoring experience.

I am familiar with each exam board and tutoring at all levels. This is not an easy subject. You will have to be fully committed to mastering each aspect of the specification and be able to use your knowledge creatively in exams. I like to make the subject relevant and engaging as well as explain the most difficult concepts clearly in a way that makes sense and can be remembered.

Often students fail to realise their potential because of difficulties in understanding what is being asked so a significant part of each lesson focuses on exam technique and how to use their subject knowledge effectively to gain maximum marks.
Friendly and reliable, I have helped many students in the past and some even have become family friends.

A lot relies on the personal relationship between me and the student;; let`s see how we get on and take it from there.
Cup of tea always welcome...

I have a degree in Biology as well as a PhD.

some recent successes:

Good afternoon Sir,

I hope you are going well.

I just had my paper 3 and it went pretty well.

You won’t believe what question came up!

It was ‘The importance of cycles in biology’ and this was the first ever essay I wrote for you. I remembered the plan that you made and the different topics you showed me. I also tried to link it to the title as much as possible and I hope I did well.

Thank you for all your time and effort spend in tuition with me I know it will pay off.

Hi Gordon,

We are very happy to let you know that Krithika got `A*` in Biology.

She has got a place in Imperial College to do Medicine.

Thanks for all your help.

Warm Regards,

Hi Gordon, this is Harry - just wanted to say I got an A in biology! I’m as shocked as you probably are. Considering I got a C at AS, the hard work has really payed off. Thanks for everything

Gordon: Well done Harry....you deserve it!

Hi Gordon

Hoping all is well, and that you’ve had plenty of A-level and GCSE good news over the last few days. Just a belated note to let you know that Marcus got a A in Biology, which, added to his other grades, meant that he secured his place at Bath. He very much appreciated your help and support over the last few months (I don’t think we could have relied on school alone to get him over the line) and he wanted me to pass on, along with mine, his thanks and gratitude for a good job well done.

Wishing you well, and all the best, Susan

Name: Gordon (lesson review)
Lesson: Blood and Haemoglobin (Biology)
Notes:
Gordon’s personable and knowledgeable approach to teaching really takes into consideration his student’s input and tailors the content of the lesson to their gaps in knowledge. Using colourful diagrams, formulas, graphs and pictures, Gordon was able to take a dense scientific concept and transform it into something easily understandable and approachable – I appreciate how Gordon’s slides weren’t text-heavy and how he used real-life examples to elaborate further. One of his key strengths is how he builds on the pre-existing knowledge of the student;; he asked a wide variety of learning-check questions, including recall, inference and reasoning, which consolidated and assessed student learning. In his feedback to each student analysis, Gordon was concise, pinpointed key issues he wanted the student to note, and clarified key terms and any misconceptions the student may have had. Communication throughout the lesson was tempered to always include the student and allowed for plenty of opportunity for independent application. This was a very enjoyable and well-structured lesson taught by an experienced teacher.
