Oliver

I am an architectural designer and educator with over six years of experience across architecture, spatial design and creative practice in the UK and Europe.

I offer design mentoring, portfolio reviews and support with university applications, helping architecture and design students develop their ideas, strengthen their projects and communicate their work more effectively.

Having studied architecture at the University of Cambridge and completed my MArch with Distinction at London Metropolitan University, I have experience developing successful design portfolios and understanding the expectations of architectural education. I can support students at different stages, from applicants preparing portfolios for university applications, to students looking to improve their design projects, drawings and presentations.

Alongside design mentoring, I provide technical software support in Rhino, Vectorworks, Archicad, Photoshop and InDesign. I focus not only on teaching software tools, but on helping students understand how they can be used to develop clearer drawings, stronger visual communication and more compelling design outcomes.

My teaching approach is practical and creative, encouraging and tailored to each student. I believe good design comes from combining curiosity, experimentation, technical ability and clear communication, and I enjoy helping students develop the confidence to express their ideas and create work they are proud of.

Alongside professional practice, I have taught and mentored students at architecture schools including London Metropolitan University, The Architectural Association, The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), The Royal College of Art, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Munich.

Availability: I am available throughout Fridays, with additional availability on weekday evenings and selected weekend slots. I offer flexible online sessions and can work with students to find a regular time that suits their schedule.

Experience: I am currently an architectural designer at JA-Projects, working across a diverse range of sectors including museums, exhibitions, public realm and social housing. My role involves developing projects through different stages of the design process, producing architectural drawings and visual material, and contributing to proposals from concept through to delivery.

Previously, I worked as a designer at Takero Shimazaki Architects in London, where I gained experience across cultural, residential and community projects. I worked across a range of RIBA stages, developing design proposals, producing technical information, preparing presentations and coordinating with clients, consultants and contractors.

Alongside architectural practice, I am co-founder of badweather, an experimental architecture and scenography collective exploring reuse, fabrication and alternative approaches to making space. Through this practice I have designed and constructed temporary installations, exhibitions and performance environments internationally, including projects for cultural organisations and festivals.
Alongside my professional practice, I have developed experience supporting and mentoring architecture students through teaching, critiques and workshops. I was a teaching assistant at London Metropolitan University and have been invited as a guest critic, workshop leader and lecturer at institutions including The Architectural Association, The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), The Royal College of Art, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Munich.

My own academic and design work has received recognition throughout my architectural education. During my BA at the University of Cambridge, I was awarded the RIBA Eastern Region Prize and received an RIBA Bronze President’s Medal nomination, alongside the Clare College Honorary Scholarship and College Prize.

During my MArch at London Metropolitan University, where I graduated with Distinction, I received the award for Best Overall Portfolio, recognising the quality of my design work and architectural representation.

My work has recently been featured in New Architects 5 by The Architecture Foundation, a publication highlighting emerging architectural practices and designers in the UK.
