Information about Jody
I currently work as an Arabic, English and Qur`an tutor in Birmingham, alongside studying a Masters in TESOL at Aston University. I have only received a formal grade for one assignment at the time of writing, which was a Distinction, but I have excelled in all elements of the course. I studied my GCSEs and A-Levels at Haberdashers` Aske`s Hatcham College in south-east London, and achieved high grades; 1 A*, 6 As and 2 Bs at GCSE, and 1 A and 2 Bs at A-Level. I also studied the first year of a BA in English Literature and Linguistics at Queen Mary`s University of London, where I achieved top marks in all of my modules, although changes in my personal life meant that I did not complete the course. Next year, I intend to begin my PhD research on bilingualism.
Availability: Weekdays and Weekends. Flexible.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I completed my Trinity Certificate in TESOL in 2013, and was immediately employed as an English language teacher at the TLI English language school in Edinburgh. However, due to personal interest, I decided to travel to Mauritania where I continued teaching English on a private basis, alongside studying and memorising the Qur`an and becoming a proficient speaker of Arabic. I have previously worked as a freelance journalist for several years and had articles published for the Guardian, the Observer and the Independent among others, as well as serving as guest editor for two issues of the New Internationalist magazine. I have lived in Palestine, where I first developed a passion for the Arabic language, and in Venezuela, where I learnt Spanish.
