Information about Peter
Peter is Head of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Leeds Beckett University. Peter teaches a range of subjects covering the breadth of business management, marketing, tourism and human geography. His research expertise covers visitor attractions, visitor experience, transport operations, heritage and museums management, tourism landscapes, urban and rural regeneration and placemaking, business development and Cold War tourism.
He is an award-winning author and has published both academic books and peer-reviewed journals, as well as books covering a range of transport, tourism and landscape histories. He is also a features writer for a number of publications and has appeared on several television and radio programmes discussing the travel and tourism industry.
Peter has owned businesses in photography, travel, ICT, waste management and publishing, and has delivered consultancy work for organisations in a several industry sectors worldwide. In 2021 Peter was Awarded the Victor Middleton Prize for Education and Scholarship by the Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE).
Peter is a Fellow of the Tourism Management Institute and the Yorkshire and Humber representative, a Fellow of the Tourism Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Travel and Tourism, and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is Co-Chair of The Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE), a Director of The Institute of Travel and Tourism and he represents ATHE on the Tourism Society Board. He is Chair of the Tourism Consultants Network and is also part of an ABTA Working Group on skills and qualifications. Peter is regularly invited to speak at conferences about education policy, placemaking and heritage management.
He is Chair of a charity co-delivering a multi-million-pound regeneration project for a historic house and country park and is the Education and Outreach Officer for the Airfield Research Group. He was formerly Vice-Chair of The Museum of Carpet.
Previously Peter worked as Head of Marketing, Leisure, Innovation and Enterprise at the University of Wolverhampton, and also managed the institutions Arts Council funded Arena Theatre. Before working in academia Peter managed EU funded projects in the Peak District, tourism projects in Oxfordshire and spent several years working for The National Trust.
Availability: I can be very flexible - especially with online tutoring. Evenings, weekends and Friday`s are best for face to face tutoring.

He has worked with individuals and groups at various academic levels, from young learners aged 16 and above to university students and professionals pursuing postgraduate and doctoral studies.
Throughout his career, Peter has taught in classroom settings, delivered specialised training programs, and provided one-on-one tutoring, tailoring his approach to meet the unique needs of each student. His expertise extends to curriculum development, exam preparation, industry-focused training, and PhD supervision, where he supports students in refining their research methodologies, structuring dissertations, and developing critical analytical skills.
With a strong focus on practical application, Peter integrates real-world industry insights into his teaching, ensuring that learners not only grasp theoretical concepts but also understand how to apply them in professional contexts. His passion for education, combined with his deep subject matter knowledge, has enabled him to mentor and guide countless students toward academic success and career advancement.
