Information about Helena

I am a recent graduate from the University of Exeter in BPS accredited BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sport and Exercise Science. I am currently studying a MSc in Sports and Health Sciences at the University.
I am experienced in Social Psychology, Sports Psychology and Research Methods & Statistics; I have conducted research in these fields during undergraduate study & through specialising for my dissertation project.
Having remained in the education system throughout further and higher education, I have an up-to-date knowledge of the current curriculum across examination boards such as AQA, Edexcel and OCR. Furthermore, from studying a BPS accredited course I am thoroughly accustomed to meeting the accepted practices expected at university and in the professional research field.
During tuition sessions, I am able to create an individually tailored plan to best benefit the student’s requirements; these may include developing skills in essay structure and use of subject vocabulary, learning how to approach subject knowledge for better understanding of the content, developing the ability to go beyond the syllabus content to the wider research field (necessary for students wishing to achieve the top grades), developing revision techniques, and breaking down challenging material into smaller quantities that are easier to tackle. Finally, I aim to develop confidence in the student, and subsequently, enjoyment for the subject area.
I am able to offer the student tuition from my home, or from the University as it is located relatively closely to Exeter College and St. David’s train station. As a student, I have access to study rooms, offices and library rooms that can be booked out for tuition sessions – a great opportunity for the student to take advantage of the working environment the University has to offer.
Finally, I am happy to make some cost adjustments in specific circumstances; for example, those who are happy to share their tuition sessions (i.e. 2 students in 1 slot) I will accept each student meeting 50% of the cost each. I am also happy to mark practice papers remotely for a reduced fee.

Experience: I have a wealth of experience working with young students, from ages 9-18 years-old. Most recently, I have worked on the Exeter National Citizen Service (NCS) as a Team Leader over the past 2-years. This role included working with a group of 14 young-people (15-18-y/o) delivering workshops to help develop skills in interview techniques, CV writing, managing finances time management, and managing stress and anxiety symptoms, and managing time. These skills were then engaged as the young people were required to execute a community/charitable project. As a Team Leader, it was my role to support the young people, on an individual and a group level, to get the most out of the experience possible. I thoroughly enjoy my time working on NCS and I become incredibly invested in each young-person I meet. Working with young people one-to-one or in small groups is a passion of mine, and I’d love to do this in an academic capacity.
As an undergraduate, I have experience in delivering lectures to a range of groups – both in independently organised capacities and as part of my degree. I have been published twice in academic journals and delivered my research/articles to the publishers. I have also delivered reserach papers to students from the age of 16-years.
In the future, I hope to go on to become a University lecturer and researcher in the field of Sports Psychology.
