I have over 25 years software industry experience, working in programming, design and architect roles for many large blue chip organisations such as Nokia, BT, Barclays & HMRC.
Currently I am self employed providing e-commerce services to small and medium sized businesses. I also work with a small team on the development of a new internet based accountancy system.
Away from technology I am also a qualified Women`s Artistic Gymnastics Coach and coach 5 days a week with gymnasts between the ages of 5 and 17.
Availability: As I work for myself, I am quite flexible during the working day to provide some tutoring. I do however coach gymnastics during the early evening so evening sessions would need to be after about 7pm.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: My main areas of skills are software architecture, design and implementation using Java and JEE but I also work and have worked significantly with C/C++ and PHP.
I have good Operating System experience with Unix/Linux and strong database design and development background with Oracle and MySQL.
It is crucial that people learning development skills and wishing to make it their career don`t just learn to write code. Rather, they need to understand how to build robust and secure software that will work as a part of larger systems and with large teams of other developers.
This requires a selection of different skills and as someone with many years of real "in the trenches" commercial experience, I can provide guidance on this.
