Robert has tutored my daughter for her A-Level History. It has been an excellent experience for my daughter, not just in the content of the subject, but in improving writing techniques, which helps with other subjects also.
Robert is extremely diligent in providing constructive feedback and "going the extra mile".
I would recommend him highly.

Neil is funny and engaging, skilfully able to accurately determine the right amount of guidance to set you on the correct path in your studies, without suffocating your independent learning experience. Whether it was through debate or imparting information to me directly I learned a considerable amount. A warm, charming man, with knowledge in many fields and willing to go the extra mile to help. Neil was a truly calming figure during the hectic time that I was doing my undergraduate dissertation, always there in my time of need! Neil is also an excellent proof-reader and helped me to improve my writing skills over a short period of time. I look forward to using his insight again on other projects in the future. I can highly recommended this tutor for students undergoing undergraduate or postgraduate study.

Neil helped me with two AS retakes, one on Elizabeth I’s reign and the other on the German Reformation handling textual sources. Although he already had extensive knowledge in these two areas, he read up on them outside the hours we met and so was in a good position to criticise and help improve my work. As well as this, he was very flexible in switching back and forth from one subject to the other over the weeks, usually without notice.

We focused on good essay writing practice in order to make my writing clearer and stronger and I acquired a more effective writing style. As well as helping with practice exam essays, Neil proofread a piece of A2 history coursework for me, making suggestions for style which gained me full marks in that particular piece. His help with essay planning, structuring and articulation was invaluable and went beyond what is required at AS level and yet was still in keeping with the criteria of the mark schemes. This work on style prepared me well both for my recent AS and A2 exams and for the historical essays and reports I will write as an undergraduate.

Neil gave realistic but friendly criticism and always tried to find solutions to my problems. I enjoyed debating ideas with him – he was always willing to consider my opinions. He was patient and provided firm guidance, which was very reassuring and boosted my confidence.
