Hello, my name is Joao, and I`m from Portugal. I began my musical studies by learning alto saxophone back when I was 12 years old. Since then I`ve experimented with various other instruments such as Piano, Guitar and Recorder and feel very comfortable teaching them.

I`ve been teaching for the last 6 years. I always try to tailor my lessons around the students, both their personality and musical taste, and I think that`s a critical factor in teaching young children, teenagers, or adults. I am also a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

My academic qualifications (BA in Music Education/M.Ed in Music Teaching) gave me a deeper insight into pedagogy and teaching strategies. My opinion is that you can`t force someone into enjoying playing music. Students have to discover it themselves, and my role is to provide a context and environment where that is possible.

Besides the standard music practice, I often listen to music with my students, improvise and talk about the mechanics and theory of the music language.

You can expect a devoted teacher from me.

Availability: I am available during the weekdays. Saturdays can be discussed.

Experience: I`ve been teaching saxophone, piano, recorder, music theory, ear training and guitar for 7 years.
I`ve had many of my students take on the ABRSM exams with excellent results.
