Information about Jenny
I am highly motivated and enthusiastic, and excited both about my subjects and about communicating them to others and helping children and young people achieve their potential.
I am an English literature PhD student at Cambridge university. I specialise in poetry and translation between English and French, and my first degree was in French and Latin, so I would be available to tutor in any of those subjects. I am an experienced tutor and small group teacher with a track record of motivating reluctant students and stretching and inspiring enthusiastic ones.
I am knowledgeable about autism and Specific Learning Difficulties (indeed I have one myself) and would love to encourage children and young people for whom school can be a non-ideal learning environment.
Availability: I would be available most evenings and on Saturdays, and also often in the afternoon - get in touch and we can work out a time to suit!
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have experience tutoring IGCSE French, common entrance and A-level English, with proven good results.
I also have experience of small-group and one-on-one EFL teaching at an English language summer school, which included some experience working with SEN students.
At Cambridge University, I teach poetry to students in small groups, including selecting material and marking essays.
Previous experience both volunteer and employment working with children and young people, in a homework club setting and reading one-on-one.
