Information about Steen
I graduated from the University of Cambridge, Sidney Sussex College, reading Natural Sciences (Part II Genetics) in 2000. I then completed a PhD in Biochemistry at University College London (UCL) before undertaking postdoctoral studies at Columbia University, New York, USA in the Department of Genetics from 2004 to 2010. From 2010 until 2017, I held a Principal Research Fellowship Position at UCL Cancer Institute where I currently hold an appointment as an Honorary Senior Research Associate. I am currently taking a career break for several months but am interested in putting my academic expertise to good use.
Availability: Sun-Fri: Afternoons and evening
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Whilst studying for my first degree, I tutored GCSE Maths and turned a student who was predicted an E/D grade into a solid C student. Recently, I have been tutoring KS3 Physics and Maths as well as GCSE Combined Science. Through my appointment at UCL, I have delivered lectures to undergraduate and graduate students (BSc. Applied Medical Sciences and MSc. Cancer). Through my capacity as a laboratory research scientist, I have supervised tens of undergraduate and graduate students which have required the development of strong listening skills and breaking down information to help convey understanding of subject matter. In addition, I help develop logical thinking and practical approaches to problem-solving. I have deep expertise in biological sciences and can teach any science and mathematics up to GCSE level and Biology at A-Level.
