Information about Kate
I am a firm believer that learning should be an enjoyable experience, and as a tutor I use a variety of approaches to inspire learning - always based on meeting an individuals requirements and needs, in a positive and motivational way.
As an experienced English, and Literacy SATS teacher, I know and understand that studying English Language and English Literature at both GCSE and GCE level are highly demanding subjects.
Both require an ability to understand many skills to achieve success wether your child is aiming for an A*, or the all important C grade ( now grade 4)
I have considerable experience motivating and coaching young students towards a belief in their own potential to succeed, with the added experience of working with children with dyslexia.
Availability: Evenings and weekends
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I qualified as Secondary School Teacher with the University of Bath 13 years ago, and continue to work as full-time teacher of English in a Secondary School.
I have tutored privately for several years at GCSE and GCE level for students from both state and private schools with experience of teaching across all exam boards. I offer an assessment first, a skills based focus on improving both confidence and techniques needed to secure and exceed expected target grades.

Having failed to achieve the required grade 4/C in his previous 4 attempts at English GCSE my son had lost all confidence in his ability to achieve this limiting his options post 18. Thanks to Kate who convinced a sceptical student that with her help he could get a grade 4. She quickly identified the right buttons to push to motivate and highlighted where his schools approach may be hindering rather than helping his results. This summer he sat his fifth attempt at English GCSE and with the confidence and exam skills instilled by Kate over the previous 4 months achieved the illusive grade. Kate broke down the exam into smaller chunks that helped him to focus and despite the awful weather managed to keep or rearrange every appointment. I would recommend Kate to anyone looking for a tutor especially for frustrated sixth formers. I wish we had known her earlier.
