Information about Ollie
From my experiences self-teaching my Maths and Physics A-levels I have a unique understanding of the obstacles school-age students face. Beginning with firm foundations, I work with students to build the intuition and confidence needed to explore these fascinating subjects and excel in exams and beyond. I currently teach maths to undergraduates in Engineering and Physics at Sussex University.
I work with students to develop a bespoke tutoring package depending on their goals; from complete courses running alongside school syllabi to more casual sessions centred around discussion, I aim to make these often challenging subjects engaging and tractable.
Often have I heard it said that maths and physics are difficult subjects but I fundamentally believe that, with the correct focus on fundamentals, everyone is capable of mastering their study.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Physics at the Royal Holloway University of London this summer (2020); prior to this I completed my Maths and Physics A-levels as an external candidate in the summer of 2017. I am now undertaking a Masters degree in Physics at the University of Nottingham.
My teaching style is centred on building the foundations of understanding; I have found that often the difficulties students face in tackling new material can be traced back to a poor understanding of basic concepts and I therefore focus heavily on these. It is my belief that time invested in building these foundations pays dividends in the end as it makes it much easier for students to both learn the new material and remember the old.
I have taught students from a wide array of educational backgrounds and have come into contact with many different course syllabi, from KS3, GCSE through to A-level and even the American school syllabus. My lesson style is flexible depending on the goals of the student but I offer tuition that can follow as closely as required the syllabi of school or college courses; from my experiences self-teaching my A-levels I am practised at marking exam paperstherefore my tuition can encompass both ends of the educational spectrum, from casual discussion to formal exam preparation and everything in between.
As a mature student I spent time in the working world before undertaking my current academic programme; as a result of this time, I understand the value of pride and professionalism at work. I pledge to exemplify both these attributes as a tutor to any prospective pupil.
Availability: I am available 7 days a week; I organise tutoring around my work and studies and aim to be as flexible as possible.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring for three years both face-to-face and online and have good experience teaching students with different goals, from exam focus to general interest. Over this time I have taught students from a wide spectrum of abilities and educational backgroundsfrom primary school all the way up to A-level.
Alongside my undergraduate studies I ran Physics workshops in local schools through SouthEast Physics Network (SEPnet). I also worked at the Royal Holloway as a teaching assistant for first-year undergraduate students in mathematics and physics in my final year.

Great tutor. My son really benefited from being properly trained and gave him confidence to tackle Math questions years ahead of his age. >recommended
