I am a patient and supportive teacher. I have a very strong background in mathematics and am able to find different ways to teach students.
Maths can be a bit of a marmite subject which some students do not really enjoy so much. Others can lack confidence in their ability. I treat students as individuals and enjoy finding ways to engage them.

For me, the most important thing is to encourage the students to appreciate their successes and to give them the confidence to try their best and tackle difficult topics and questions. When they are feeling more confident students can achieve much more than they think they are capable of.

Availability: I am available at any time after 4pm from Mondays to Fridays.

Experience: I am a qualified mathematics teacher and have had the privilege of teaching mathematics for over twenty years.

I started my teaching career in high school (years 9 to 11) where I taught mathematics for six years. There I learned to teach students of differing abilities, confidence, motivation and concentration as well as the ins and outs of the GCSE curriculum.

Next I taught Numeracy and Literacy in Adult Education to small groups of students. The students were of differing abilities, ages and life experience.The challenge was to use the skills the students had already developed and to gear the teaching to mathematics from everyday life. I also learned to teach the topics in the adult numeracy curriculum. It was lovely to help students gain the qualification to enable them to progress in their careers or to change their careers.

I ran a successful tuition business for 9 years helping students with Mathematics and English from the age of 4 up to 16 years old. This extended my knowledge of mathematics to Primary education. I produced an individualised programme for each single student according to their strengths and weaknesses.

I have recently been teaching Mathematics and English to Looked after Children (LAC) on a one to one basis. They were often children who had fallen through the gaps in the system and were not fulfilling their potential. I enjoyed engaging the children and was delighted when they gained what was for some their first qualifications which led them to start college courses or employment.

I have also taught English as a Foreign Language for a couple of years.
