Information about Sonia

I bring a wealth of experience as a Maths teacher, having taught in a secondary school in London and an international school in Bangkok. My teaching background includes working with a diverse range of students, from mixed-ability and top sets to those with Special Educational Needs and English as an Additional Language, across KS3 and GCSE. I have also managed classes with challenging behavior, learning to navigate these situations calmly and effectively to bring out the best in every student. This experience fuels my passion for tutoring, where one-on-one interactions allow me to tailor my approach and achieve outstanding results. Additionally, I have taught English to both adults and children in Peru.

My passion for teaching Maths lies in fostering a child`s confidence and resilience through their progress. I firmly believe that with dedication and self-belief, anyone can excel in Maths. My goal is to help students develop these qualities, transferring their success from academics to other areas of their lives.

Inspired by Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset, my teaching philosophy centers on the belief that success in Maths is driven by hard work, persistence, and resilience, rather than innate talent. By instilling these skills and fostering a growth mindset, I aim to enhance students` motivation and determination, leading to greater effort and improved grades. Having achieved 11 A*s at GCSE in an underprivileged state school despite a challenging environment, I am dedicated to instilling this ethos of hard work and resilience in my students.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy gelato, exploring new places, meeting new people, and delving into psychology, philosophy, and nature. I’m always curious and eager to learn and question the world around me.

Additionally, I obtained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the Institute of Education (IoE), renowned worldwide for its excellence in teacher training. My passion for Mathematics drives me to help students build confidence and achieve success in the subject, fostering their academic growth and enthusiasm.
