Information about David

I am a final year PhD student with expertise in the areas of global and modern history, political and sociological theory, and a range of national histories ranging from Japan to Russia. I am also an experienced teacher with experience lecturing and leading discussions at all levels, ranging from one-to-one A-level tutoring to post-graduate workshops. As part of this teaching I have undertaken an array of marking and proof-reading and have assisted students in planning essays and research. Between 2014 and 2016 I tutored several A-level and undergraduate students in the Nottingham and Coventry area and I am looking to do so again while I finish my PhD. All inquiries welcome.

Experience: For the academic year 2017-18 I have worked as a seminar leader on the University of Nottingham’s first-year undergraduate module ‘Roads to Modernity’, exploring global history and political theory. This role included leading a weekly seminar discussion, providing one-to-one support in office hours, and making undergraduate essays.

I also deliver a series of lectures and seminars on the University of Nottingham’s Foundation Year and the module ‘Important Thinkers’. This includes sessions on: Karl Marx, Mahatma Gandhi, Steven Spielberg and Edward Said. I have also delivered one-off sessions at undergraduate and MA level. This included seminars on: political ideology, political method, post-war Britain, global history and reading historiography.

Since 2014 I have tutored A-level and undergraduate students in the Coventry and Nottingham area in subjects such as: history, English literature, politics, international relations, sociology and philosophy. I have an excellent track record in improving student performance.
