Information about Anne
Specialist teacher in dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, ASD.
Does your child:
struggle with the little joining words but not the big ones?
leave words out altogether?
lack fluency in their reading?
find it difficult to understand what they have read?
seem much better some days than other days?
I trained as a teacher in 1985, although my specific interest in helping children with reading difficulties brought me into the world of tutoring 15 years ago.
I became aware that many parents were having difficulty getting the right help for their children in school, mainly due to lack of time and specialist knowledge. However,I found that by devoting a relatively short time to these children on a one-to-one basis that they could learn to read well and that this then had a hugely positive effect on their ability to do well at school.
I was delighted recently when one of my 11 year old pupils (probably dyslexic, although undiagnosed) increased her reading age by 2.5 years in just 6 months, increased her maths scores from 35% to 75%(she could now read the questions). She was taken out of one-to-one classes at school because, as the school said, "she doesn`t need them anymore".
I really enjoy tutoring because it is a pleasure to see children who have struggled at school for so long start to do really well.
I am also a trained Davis Dyslexia facilitator. The Davis system is the world`s only method for correcting dyslexia. Once a child has learnt the Davis methods he/she will usually use them throughout their life.
In addition to my specialist work, I teach English and Maths to children who are not having difficulties learning to read, but require some support or extra confidence in their schoolwork.

Experience: I specialise in teaching children who are struggling to read and to spell, although I usually find that these children need support in their maths as well.
I have a proven track record for improving children`s reading ages (often with dramatic results for the rest of their schoolwork) and getting children reading for pleasure, probably one of the most important factors in success at school. This works equally well for dyslexic and non-dyslexic children.
All the children I tutor find that their levels of confidence increase considerably as a result of one-to-one tutoring.
