A full-time tutor with over 8 years` experience teaching subjects from Common Entrance level through to Undergraduate.
While completing my DPhil at Oxford, I began my teaching at undergraduate level, yet my real passion is lighting the fire in those who have had no previous introduction to Classics, and I always look forward to engaging students from diverse backgrounds and at different ages.
I provide a full education, working with the same attention and depth that you would enjoy at school, yet building the course around your specific needs. I don’t have a fixed syllabus or study notes that I force upon you, instead I work with you individually, designing a course around you, finding the best approach to secure the highest possible mark in your exams.
As well as teaching, I also provide thesis assistance to those at university, as well as help with EPQs and A-Level dissertations.
I teach exclusively online from a dedicated office in my home, with reliable fibre broadband, a webcam, and a microphone. I offer a free introductory session to talk through your specific needs, meet you (parent, student, or both!), and discuss scheduling.

Experience: 8 years` experience as a full time tutor. To date I have taught over 3500 private, one-on-one tutorials online, to students from all over the world.
All major syllabuses covered, including OCR, Cambridge, Edexcel, AQA, and WJEC.
ISEB for 13+ Entry to top independent schools, plus Winchester, Westminster and Eton College entrance and scholarship papers.
I have a DPhil from Oxford, as well as a 1st Class degree from St. Andrews, and an MSt (Distinction) from Oxford.

We are very grateful for the support Ben provided our son during his Ancient History studies in preparation for his A level. While our son already had a decent grasp of the content and was genuinely interested in the subject, he had been struggling with structuring his essays and expressing his ideas clearly under exam conditions. He also was lacking in some requisite knowledge, particularly around the sources. Ben’s guidance made a significant difference. He took a calm, coaching approach—never rushing, always patient—and worked to help our son build confidence and clarity in his writing. Rather than overwhelming him with information, Ben focused on refining the way he organised his arguments, helping him develop a clear structure and better understand what examiners were looking for. Ben’s knowledge of Ancient History is clearly extensive and was clear from the outset, just as importantly, he created a supportive learning environment that encouraged our son to ask questions without feeling silly. Rather than simply delivering information, he engaged our son in thoughtful discussion, helping him to develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of historical contexts which helped tremendously. Thanks to Ben, our son feels his exams went very well (we won’t know the outcome until August), but regardless, whatever the outcome, Ben’s support has been pivotal to improving both confidence and performance. Ben was excellent with my son, who has just sat his English GCSE`s. He helped build up his confidence in his English, as it has always been his weakest subject, and gave him advice on how best to approach the questions.
