Information about Fatima
I am a 5th year medical student at Imperial College London with a drive for teaching. Teaching is extremely important within the medical profession with a strong culture between professionals and students as well as peer-peer teaching which I have actively participated in. I have tutored four 3rd year medical students for their practical examinations, as well 2nd year students for their written science examinations, who have all done very well. I have also tutored students in preparation for medical university interviews (MMIs as well as traditional panel), who have all received university offers as a result. In addition, I have participated in community outreach programmes run by Imperial which involve tutoring A-level students in preparation for science exams. I have worked as a Student-Shaper as part of the medical faculty, participating in curriculum development and research. I have also recently undertaken a teaching skills course to hone my tutoring abilities.
As a medical student I have an excellent grasp of science and have achieved great success in these subjects throughout my school and university career. I achieved 11A* grades at GCSE and A*AA at A-level. I also completed an intercalated BSc in Global Health at Imperial College last year. Still being in education myself allows me to relate to the problems students experience during the learning process and I can individually tailor the teaching lesson plans to overcome these. Before beginning every session, I will outline the learning outcomes and expectations, this will be evaluated at the end of each session to check progress. I consider myself to be friendly and patient and place a strong emphasis on deeper understanding of topics rather than so-called `book-learning`. This is particularly important in science where concepts build on each other in a logical way. I am dynamic in my approach and strive to make sure my students understand every concept before applying it to exam situations. This will allow students to apply knowledge even in unseen/new question styles, giving them a better chance for success.
I have always enjoyed teaching and believe I have the skills as well as knowledge to improve not only students` grades but also their approach to learning. If you are interested in my tuition, please don`t hesitate to get in touch!
