Information about Deborah

I know the importance of achieving an A grade in chemistry - it allows students access to many degree courses, medicine, bio-chemistry and chemistry to name a few. As a tutor I will support any student who would like to achieve an A in chemistry, as it will provide them with the ability to pursue their career of choice.

When tutoring I am encouraging, always calm and patient. Together the student and I will work to turn their weaknesses in chemistry into strengths. I know my subject in great detail! I will always take time to explain chemistry in an easy to understand way, as I am keen to help all students achieve the best grade possible, we will always work towards an A!

My approach is to invest time to help develop my student`s understanding of chemistry, the student`s confidence and to develop their exam technique as well. Once my contact details are purchased, I immediately ask for areas the student wants to focus on, I would forward my SQA recommended reading list for chemistry and during our sessions we would also work though step-by-step "A grade" questions I have created. The attempt of many difficult questions with the student is important as it would demonstrate to the student the level of work required for an "A" answer.

I have also familiarised myself with the SQA exam board requirements for a high grade (the marking instructions as issued by SQA); I will discuss with the student how to tackle the questions in accordance with "marking instructions".

A little bit about my background; after a decade of working in accounts I became a mature student - I am current studying for a masters in chemistry at St Andrews. My future career track is to be a chemistry teacher, a career which I am looking forward to.

Availability: I am available most weekdays and Saturdays.

Willing to travel: 30 miles

Experience: I am currently a chemistry (and medicinal chemistry) undergraduate at University of St Andrews.
