Information about Michael

I can help with all levels and ages, from 11+ entrance exams, to GCSE exam preparation and even university applications, in terms of personal statements and in particular, applications for Medical School. I teach Maths and Science at KS2 and KS3, and Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Economics at GCSE. I can also help with Biology at A level. I have found, over the years, that I am particularly helpful to kids who don’t seem to get on with their teachers, for whatever reason, or dislike conventional schooling, I offer a much more down to earth approach and I get on really well with all my students.

My method rests on the premise that a subject made interesting is easier to learn and for optimal exam performance one needs to be able to recall and present appropriate information. I offer memory tools so you will never forget important, though sometimes tedious, concepts and focus on exam technique, which can be applied to any subject, in any exam, at any level. Particularly at GCSE when faced with 10+ exams in 8 or more subjects over a period of 6 weeks, you will find that your strongest asset will be good, solid and reliable exam technique. This can be learned! With the result that your average grade will dramatically improve.

I gained entrance by examination to Dame Alice Owen`s School and achieved 10 A*`s and 1 A at GCSE and A*AA at A-Level in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, respectively. I entered Birmingham Medical School to follow the family tradition of Medicine (both my parents are doctors) but, though performing at the highest academic level, after the first year, I found it was not what I wanted and, on philosophical grounds, I withdrew. I want to live life on my own terms rather than those dictated to me, and for now I find it extremely gratifying to work with, and help, those younger than me achieve the grades they desire so they may have as many doors of opportunity open to them in the future as possible.

I pride myself on providing the best possible service when it comes to needing help tackling multiple exams. I will make myself available at all times, not just in our sessions. You should feel able to get in contact with me by text or email whenever you have a problem. I am very approachable and I have a knack for breaking down and explaining tricky concepts. This, combined with the rigorous and relentless practising of past paper questions within our sessions, is a formula for success. Success being, reaching the peak of your ability, regardless of the outcome. All one can do is try their hardest and have confidence in their own abilities, all I can promise is that I shall try my hardest in preparing you to achieve your goals.

Michael is a great tutor. My daughter felt more confident when taking her GCSE maths after having had some lessons with him. He would set some work for her to do later then respond quickly with feedback. He is punctual and polite and I would recommend him.
