Information about Amy
I am an English BA student with a year`s worth of teaching and tutoring experience and a passion for my subject. I am currently in the third and final year of my bachelor`s degree at the University of Sussex in Falmer, Brighton. I have always had a love for English, particularly literature, and my hobbies include reading novels, poetry and watching theatre. I have performed consistently across all levels of my education, studying a diverse selection of texts from across a range of literary and historical contexts, excelling particularly in English as my subject of choice. Having nearly completed my degree with a first class honours, I feel evermore enthused about the importance and brilliance of the language and the literature.
Availability: I am available evenings, and weekdays during the day.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have 8 months` experience as an intern tutor at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College, teaching GCSE English to post-16 students. Working with young people of various ages and competency levels demanded initiative, attention to detail and the capacity to organise and manage my time. During this time, I assisted in the teaching of two classes of twelve students, compassionately providing one to one support to students. This demanded the ability to proactively manage time and resources throughout the hour-and-a-half lessons, independently cover and prepare content and prepare materials for classes, tailor lesson plans for students with unique and challenging needs and demonstrate initiative in teaching methods. From this position, I refined my ability to show persistence and determination in the consistent reapplication of content for those struggling with the material, and it is from this position that I now re-approach tutoring, having worked one to one with a select number of students for five months` previous to this internship. Education is, in my eyes, an incredibly empowering asset with unending potential. I appreciate that everyone approaches learning differently, with different skills and strengths, however, I believe it is possible to facilitate and encourage growth within everyone with the tool of education. To be a part of the learning process of others, tracking and encouraging their progress as well as promoting their aspirations, is an entirely fulfilling and stimulating ability. I can accordingly tailor my approach to students of any ability.
