I am Katie, I am currently working as a secondary Geography and Spanish teacher. I have been teaching for 6 years (4 of them in Secondary Education and 2 of them abroad teaching English as a foreign language.)

I am fully DBS checked, and my qualifications are all on file. I am a teacher who has extensive experience in teaching content from years 7-13, I do not just have an A-Level in these subjects but a teaching qualification as well.

My aim is to build confidence in pupils and to interest them in the subject that they are learning, using current examples to engage them in the topics linking them to the wider world. i.e "how is Macbeth still relevant today?" or "how is COVID and indicator of development?"

I am able to relate to my students and am acutely aware of common exam mistakes and how to correct them easily, whilst enabling them to take the time to deconstruct exam questions and be able to understand how to answer them in a cohesive way.

I have experience teaching from 11+ to A-Level geography teaching not only how to answer questions but also how to write exam perfect answers.

In 2022 I achieved 92% pass rate for my students in a middle set class, with a further 40% of those students gaining the top grades 7+. My class, despite being set 2, gained better results overall than the set 1 class.

In Spanish I have a 100% pass rate due to my small GCSE cohort whom were privately tutored by me, they have since gone onto study Spanish at A-Level.

I also privately tutor for English literature and language and my student`s grade is set to increase from a 5 to a 7 in time for 2023 GCSE examinations.

I am also an examiner for the largest exam board in the UK and have received the top rating for my examining technique having marked hundreds of papers across the country. I understand exactly what is needed to gain full mark answers, and how to break down difficult exam questions in order to access higher levels.

Before I was a Geography and Spanish teacher I taught English as a foreign language in China, Italy and Costa Rica.

I like to use writing frames in order to structure GCSE and A-Level questions. I use materials that are easy to understand, and are based around what you need to work on. I am flexible in what I teach in order to best suit you. My skills in Geography are towards physical geography as opposed to human especially at A-Level.

With Spanish I enjoy using songs, films and pictures in order to help you acquire the language! One recent student has moved to Spain, we still continue online lessons.

In English language I find current examples to break down language and content structure, and for literature have easy to follow powerpoints on the texts that highlight the key quotes and information needed for the examinations.
