Information about John
I have enjoyed teaching for many years and have an easy going and friendly nature with my pupils. I am an animal lover and the proud owner of a mischievous black and white cat called Sherbet and a sweet collie/ retriever cross named Ruby. In my spare time I enjoy dog walking, keeping fit and following almost any sport there is!
My main aim is always to improve the confidence of each pupil, in his / her home studies and school work. I will not charge a fee for the first meeting as this will be an informal time to discuss your child`s needs and get to know them. If you are happy with what I have to offer, and your child is happy to be taught by me, we will start lessons the following week.
I like to start each lesson with a puzzle, practical task or game in order to engage my pupils, before focusing on the main objectives of that lesson. At the end of the lesson we will have a recap of what has been learned and set tasks for future progress. For pupils aged 7-11 I usually teach a one to one lesson for 45 minutes, plus a 5 minute plenary (charging a lower fee of £17 per lesson) as I believe this is a more suitable length of time to expect a younger pupil to concentrate in an evening session. I am a patient teacher and will always try to keep the lesson engaging and relevant to the pupil.
