Information about Joe
I`m a 3rd year medical student with 8 years of tutoring experience specialising in Biology and Maths, both of which are topics I continue to develop as part of my medical training. Having achieved 12A*s at GCSE, 2A*s and an A at A level, I am passionate about educating students on effective study technqiues and supporting them to surpass their predicted grades. I began tutoring at the age of 14 for a family friend who was struggling with the transition from primary to secondary school, the impact I was able to have on this student inspired me to persue my interest in teaching. Since then I have worked with students from year 4 through to year 13 and in doing so I have developed my teaching skills to cater for all abilities. I further developed my teaching methods when working for Mathsmasters Tuiton in 2019. I was also employed as an Alumni Tutor at Wallington County Grammar School in my gap year where I supported students struggling through COVID and in doing so I was able to develop my skills through the guidance of heads of Biology and Maths departments. My sessions have consistently helped students to reach their potential and surpass predicted grades. Through the sessions I also strive to develop students` life long learning skills and improve academic confidence.

Experience: I adopt a student centred approach to my sessions and appreciate that every student has their preferred way of learning so I ensure that I cater my methods to meet the needs of my students. This is especially important for neurodiverse students who may have faced challenges learning in a traditional classroom environment. In reality this means that I take time to listen to my students to understand how they will get the best out of my sessions and I adapt my teaching methods accordingly. I am a strong believer in identifying and addressing the student`s weaknesses in a subject area. Once identified I will teach the student the key concepts and content before moving onto example questions. We then progress onto the student answering exam questions independently and then review the answer together. This method has brought great success to my students and helps them to develop their exam technique whilst also building on essential subject knowledge. A fundamental goal of mine is building student`s confidence and I take great pride in seeing my students develop through the sessions. This is demonstrated in a lovely review from the parent of a GCSE maths and biology student this year: `I need to thank you. Whatever the results, him working with you has really boosted his confidence. Maths is no longer feared and he is willing to embrace it and that is down to you completely. I am not sure we could have even got him to accept that he is capable.
