Information about Michael

I’m an experienced, successful and highly regarded Science teacher with over 16 years in the classroom, currently serving as Head of Science in a London secondary school. Teaching is more than just my profession – it’s my passion. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing pupils start to believe in themselves and realise what they’re capable of. Results day is always emotional, but the pride I feel when students achieve their goals is unmatched.

I’m known for my warm, engaging style and my ability to make lessons memorable and enjoyable. Many pupils describe me as their favourite teacher — not just because I help them achieve excellent results, but because I help them enjoy Science. I love teaching in creative, unorthodox ways that make even the trickiest concepts click, and I’m proud that so many students continue studying Science after being in my lessons.

While I’m often the designated Physics specialist for GCSE, I teach all three sciences confidently and to a very high standard. I bring deep subject knowledge, years of exam experience, and a genuine commitment to helping every pupil reach their potential. I use analogies, stories, diagrams and practical demonstrations to make content clear and memorable. Above all, I pride myself on going the extra mile for my pupils – and I believe that’s the reason for the success and loyalty I’ve enjoyed throughout my career.

Availability: I currently work as Head of Science at a school in East London, and live nearby on the London/Essex border in South Woodford. I’m happy to travel locally and offer home visits, particularly if your home is within easy reach of a Central Line station or other convenient transport links.

Given the demands of my role, I’m only available for tutoring on 2–3 days per week. I dedicate considerable time to lesson planning and marking to ensure my teaching remains of the highest standard, so I only take on a small number of pupils each year to give each one my full attention and support.

Please note that I’m not available on Wednesday or Friday evenings, but I can usually offer sessions on other weekday evenings or at weekends, depending on existing commitments.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I am an experienced Science teacher and Head of Science with a strong record of success in helping pupils of all abilities achieve outstanding results. Over the past 16 years, I’ve worked in some of London’s most respected state schools, including in senior roles such as Lead Practitioner and Director of STEM. These roles were awarded in recognition of my consistently excellent outcomes and the quality of my teaching.

Across recent years, my classes have achieved value-added scores consistently close to or above +1.0 — meaning, on average, pupils achieved at least one full grade higher than their government-predicted targets. This level of progress places my teaching within the top 5% nationally.

I have extensive experience teaching GCSE Science (AQA), both Combined and Triple, and I specialise in Physics and Biology, while also teaching Chemistry to a high standard. I’m confident across all major exam boards, as the underlying scientific principles remain the same.

If you choose to work with me, you’ll also benefit from the extensive library of resources I’ve developed over my career — including bespoke revision packs, topic summaries, flashcards, exam-style question banks and carefully selected video materials. My aim is always the same: to help every pupil reach, and often exceed, their potential with confidence and enjoyment.

Michael has been helping my son with all three science subjects for the Double Higher GCSE award for the past eighteen months. He makes learning interesting and fun and my son really likes him. His GCSE predictions have improved greatly since he has been working with Michael.

My son says he finds science makes a lot more sense since Michael has been helping him. He says he finds things easier to follow now in class.
For our part Michael has been very friendly, reliable and straightforward.
