Information about Theo
Hello - I`m Theo. I graduated in 2016 with a First Class degree in French and Spanish from the University of Bristol, and in 2017 with a Distinction in MA Latin American Studies from University College London. I recently moved home, to South Leicestershire.
I am available evenings and weekends for one-to-one and small group tutoring sessions in French and Spanish, all ages, abilities and levels, including GCSE and A-Level, as well as adults who want to learn a language. I am supportive, patient and friendly, but ambitious and eager to get the very best out of every student I teach. I am able to adapt lessons to meet students` specific learning needs.
Availability: Evenings and weekends, flexible hours
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have considerable experience in teaching languages, both in the UK and abroad.
I am currently employed as a Teaching Assitant and personal tutor in a college in Leicester.
On top of this, from January to May 2016, I worked as a Languages Ambassador for Routes Into Languages, a programme with links to many UK universities, including Bristol University, which aims to encourage language learning amongst state-educated pupils, with the ultimate goal of increasing uptake in Further and Higher education. As part of this programme, I worked for a term at Bristol Free School as the Spanish language assistant. My responsibilities included assisting pupils with classroom work, leading small discussion groups, and one-to-one support for weaker pupils. My success rate was high - children often commented how much they enjoyed sessions I led and thanked me for my help in completing class work. I was pleased to see pupils make considerable progress throughout the term.
In addition, as part of my degree I spent a semester (February-June 2015) in the city of Huaraz, central Peru, where I taught English as a foreign language to children aged 10 to 19 in two different local colleges. I also taught evening classes in French at the local adult education centre, a valuable experience in teaching French as a foreign language.
I also worked on a temporary basis (June-July 2013) as a classroom assistant in the language department at Foxford School, Coventry, again leading small conversation and grammar sessions with students aged 11-16.
